Your ultimate guide to Coron, Palawan
Coron is one of those places that I still can’t believe exists. After doing a 4 day boat trip exploring islands here, I turned around and went right back out on kayak to explore more. A place with so much untouched beauty.
How to get there?
It’s easy to confuse El Nido and Coron. Many people end up at El Nido and hear about Coron after. I’d recommend going direct to Coron for a less crowded experience. You can get there by flying to Manila, (Philippines) and taking an inside flight to Busuanga. From there its a short drive to the town you can stay before heading off on your adventures.
What to do?
My top recommendation would be to take a 3 night 4 day boat trip (as I did) exploring the remote parts of the surrounding islands. This would allow you to avoid crowds, sleep on pristine beaches and meet some incredible people that come on these trips. I went through Big dream Boatmen, they have some of the best food I had in the Philippines and staff that’ll keep you laughing the whole trip. You do have to be prepared for a bit of a “camping” experience, with buckets being used as showers and nights spent in little huts or tents.
If you’re not up for the whole 4 day experience, here are some spots I would recommend:
Twin lagoon
No words for this place, you’re just going to have to go see it for yourself. I would HIGHLY recommend bringing your drone here if you have one, probably one of the coolest spots to fly. Just keep in mind this is a popular destination, so the earlier the better if you want a more secluded experience.
Kayangan lake
Some of the freshest water I’ve ever swam in. Also a great spot for snorkeling, as the rock formations here are super unique. Don’t miss the overlook halfway up the trail.
Barracuda lake
if you’re a free-diver, I might recommend barracuda over Kayangan lake. The two are pretty similar, but Barracuda typically has less people. (Also less impressive view points above water). But this one wins for the underwater rock formations.
Banul beach
Just a fun spot for a lunch stop, or again early to avoid people you’ll have the whole beach to yourself.
Black Island cave
For beaches, this is my top recommendation in Coron. You might have a hard time finding a company to take you here, as it is really far out compared to the other spots mentioned. But if you can make it here, it is absolutely incredible. An island with two shipwrecks you can snorkel, a massive cave with a lagoon in it, small cliff jumping spot and pristine white sand with turquoise water. We were pretty much alone on the island.
My hidden gem of Coron:
This is a top secret spot that i’m 90% sure most travelers don’t know about. Another gem found by zooming in on google maps :) This is an abandoned sea plane, floating on a lake about 45 minutes out of Coron town. You need a kayak or paddle board to get here, but you can climb on top of the plane and into the cock pit. Really fun adventure spot if you’re into abandoned places. Route maps to Marina del sol resort & yacht club, kayak about 25 minutes and you’ll arrive here. (You can also look on google maps with satelite to see exact location)
If you’re planning a trip to Coron, I hope you enjoy this amazing place as much as I did.
With love,
Callie
