Ibiza, for the early risers.

When I booked a flight to Ibiza, I definitely wasn’t expecting half of what I’ve experienced here. I usually don’t write a blog until the trip is over, or even a few years after. But I’m so excited about this place that I can’t help but write one now. I arrived in Ibiza five days ago, with expectations of a party island with some nice beaches. As it turns out, Ibiza has some crazy beautiful and diverse landscapes. Once you leave Ibiza city center, there are countless adventures to go on, 90% of which are nearly empty trails!

Where to stay?

Can Salia Hotel

Ibiza has a wide variety of places to stay, but my recommendation would be to stay near Sant Antoni de Portmany. It’s just thirty minutes out of town, but offers a lot more natural beauty without the chaos of Ibiza city central. Can Salia is the hotel I’m at now. It’s a 4 star ocean front hotel with one of the most beautiful infinity pools on the island. With an ocean- view gym, incredible buffet breakfast, emphasis on sustainability and a very kind staff, you’ll feel at home here too. This morning I took the pilates class here. Yoga and massage are on tomorrow’s itinerary!

Where to explore?

Atlantis

My top recommendation would have to be Atlantis beach, as it has a great mix of something for everyone. This castle-like city gets its name from rock formations that make the beach look like Atlantis. However, the carvings of shapes and faces were created by hippies in the 1960’s, as this was previously an old stone quarry. Here you have cliff jumping, turquoise water, crazy carvings in the rocks and one of the most unique beaches I’ve ever seen. The hike down and back up is a bit steep and rocky, so I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners. On the way up, I also saw some people rock climbing. After getting their contacts, I returned back at sunset the next day to climb and found that the route was absolutely incredible. If this is something that interests you, I’d highly recommend looking into the climbing routes here.

Es Verda

Es Verda is probably the most popular hike on the island. It’s the perfect place to see sunset after a day at Atlantis Beach, as both locations can be accessed using the same trail. At the beginning of the trail, to get to Atlantis, you take the fork to the left. For Es Verda, you continue straight. After a 10-15 minute walk you’ll reach the Es Verda overlook. The lookout might be a bit crowded, but typically, the vibe is fun with people playing music and sharing good energy.

Es Portitxcol

This spot is another favorite of mine. It’s a less crowded spot with some really beautiful old boat houses. I came across this place by accident, but it ended up being one of my favorite spots. There were no people here when I arrived, and only a few that came during the hours I spent there.

Ses Balandres

Another incredible “secret” spot you can find on the island. To get here you will need to do a bit of rock climbing down (and back up) but there are ropes to help assist. This is rated one of the more dangerous hikes in Ibiza, so I would recommend only going if you are in physical condition to do so. If you’re up for the adventure, this spot is absolutely incredible. I had the whole place to myself for the three hours that I spent here.

Cave of light

I haven’t made it to this spot yet, but it’s at the top of my list right now. It’s said to be the most dangerous spot on the island, as you need to jump six meters, then freedive to get out of this cave. It is highly recommended to go with a guide. Only jump in if you are confident that you can hold your breath long enough to get out!

Enjoy exploring Ibiza. I hope this guide helps you on your adventures.

With love,

Callie
